5 ways to update your living room

So you have been saying for years I really need to update the living room. But there has always been something stopping you. Mostly because it's a big job and once you start there will be the upheaval and annoyance that comes with any renovation or redecorating project so we all just shut up and put up but why, Why do we do this. The living room is a place we spend a lot of time and it needs to be a space that makes us happy. We want to be proud of our home and the way it looks and makes us feel.

So today we are going to talk 5 ways to update your living room to make you feel happy and confident in your home.

1. The colour pallet

The colours in a room are so important. They can affect everything from how warm and cosy the room is to how it affects your mood. This is something you can change with ease and it can make a world of difference.

For example, dark rooms with dark colours can evoke emotions such as sadness and anger. Whereas lighter rooms with yellows and creams evokes freshness, happiness, positivity, clarity, energy, optimism, enlightenment, and joy. Grey represents neutrality and balance. Blue has feelings of calmness or serenity and pink brings calming influences associated with love, kindness, and femininity.

Colours have a bigger impact on our emotions than we sometimes give them credit for so it is really important to plan and optimise light in the living room you want it to feel like a nice place to be and emote a good atmosphere.

2. The flooring

The flooring in your living room is really important first you need to decide what type of person you are are you a wooden flooring person or a carpet person. They both have pros and cons but I am on team hardwood flooring. Changing from carpet to wood just added the next level to any room. It elevates the room from a common floor to an "oh love the floor" room. You know what I mean.

I personally love Herringbone Engineered Flooring it's not only elegant but it is hard-wearing scratch-resistant, looks incredible and most importantly is affordable. If like me you have a family and dogs Engineered flooring is far more convenient and easy to clean. No more worrying about spills on the carpet as it is waterproof and it takes seconds to clean up any messes. No more dragging the carpet cleaner out from the cupboard for you. Engineered flooring is available in a huge range of styles and design options too so there will be something to suit your individual style and budget.

3. Your seating

one of the biggest features of your living room is your seating. How old is your sofa? For most of us, we hang on to our sofa and chairs for far too long. Yes, we are all guilty of this. But choosing new seating can really change up your room. Have you thought about moving to a corner sofa would that open up your room and give you more space and on the flip side have you thought about changing your corner sofa for different options?

Seating these days is a personal thing gone are the three-seater and chair options. You can have anything thing your heart desires in your living room it is after all your happy place. I have an interior designer friend who had a swing in her living room and my gosh it looked so stylish. Why not think of a new portion for your living room seating it might just change the whole room.

4. The soft furnishing

This is the easiest one to change out. The soft furnishing in your living room is really easy to swap out. I actually have different curtains, throws and pillows for every season. This way I can change up my space and mood with the change of a pillow or curtains. It is so easy to make these changes and it is not expensive.

I keep a regular eye out in the sales for soft furnishing the best ones are at the end of each season. I tend to go for more classic styles and keep them for next year. I will buy my summer soft furnishing for next year at the end of summer sales this year. You can also pick up great bargains in places like Primark and home bargains. I have some gorgeous cushions that look designer and they are from Primark. Also, TK Maxx is always a great option.

5. The art

Now not everyone has art in their living room but I don't just mean expensive art collections I also mean your photos and photo canvas. When was the last time you added a nice new piece of art or even an updated photo to your living room? It is good to keep memories and photos but do you regularly update your walls?

If you like art or are a collector it might be time to add something new to your living room to change up the mood of the room. This is an easy thing to swap out. Buying a new canvas, painting or print for your wall can add so much depth to your room and change the whole ethos.

Equally, it's time to update your memories and get some new ones up on the wall. If you like to have photos of family and friends up and haven't updated them in a while this is your sign to go and get some new memories printed and put up on your wall.

I hope this has given you some inspiration on where to make changes to your living room to improve it and make it more modern and more like you are now.
